Definiteness

A matrix \(\displaystyle A\lt /math is positive definite if for all vectors \lt math\gt x\), \(\displaystyle x^T A x \gt 0 \lt math\gt .\lt br\gt If the inequality is weak, \lt math\gt \geq \) then the matrix is positive semi-definite.
Examples of PSD matrices:

  • \(\displaystyle x x^T\lt math\gt is PSD for any vector \lt math\gt x\)
