COBOL is an old language which is commonly used in mainframe computers.

Since COBOL is no longer widely taught in academia, there is now a scarcity of COBOL programmers which are needed to maintain old mainframes.

Installation

Linux

sudo apt install libgmp-dev libltdl-dev
sudo apt install libdb-dev libncurses-dev

# Download gnucobol
wget -O gnucobol-3.0-rc1.tar.xz https://sourceforge.net/projects/open-cobol/files/gnucobol/3.0/gnucobol-3.0-rc1.tar.xz/download
tar xf gnucobol-3.0-rc1.tar.xz

# Install
cd gnucobol-3.0-rc1.tar.xz
./configure
make
sudo make install
ldconfig
